LADONIA 5 000! |
|
|
Ladonia is constantly growing and has now more than 5 000 citizens. Nr 5 000 was 00-4925 Catharina Wöhlecke-Haglund from Sweden. She is also a part of the nobility. The uneven number 4925 is due to the fact that the old nobility consists of 75 nobles without personal numbers. |

SUPREME COURT |
|
|
The ever ongoing courtcase between the landowner and Ladonia has now reached the Supreme Court. Lawyer Holme, representing the landowner, claims that the state secretary when restauring Wotans Tower after the storm in January, has the possession of the construction and not the real owner, the artists Jeanne-Claude and Christo. We will now have to wait a couple of months before the Supreme Court will decide whether or not the will accept to deal with the appeal.
This courtcase started in February 1982 and it is now clear that it will still continue in year 2001. How many courts will a man have to see
The answer is blowing in the wind

THE GREAT DONOR |
|
|
Here is another fascinating story with lawyer Holme. One must say that he is an interesting man! The great donor, who wishes to be in the background offered a great deal of timber to Ladonia and Nimis, 24 cubic meters. He promised to sail it to Ladonia. He had a contact in the surroundings who would be able to arrange a boat trip. Nothing happened with this matter and the state secretary had almost forgotten it when it was arranged in the end of November. It came by truck and was placed outside the dwellings of the state secretary. The great donor explained the delay and why it couldnt be brought by boat. His contact was lawyer Holme and as you might understand from his point of view he couldnt really handle this case. His concerns must be with the other side, the count. Hardly could he help making the Nimis sculpture bigger. As lawyer Holme is also handling matters of law for the great donor he had run into an unresolvable conflict and that is why time was flying away. But now the transportation of the pieces have started. It will be interesting to see whether lawyer Holme will try to attack this possible case.

WISDOM OF BUSH |
|
|
The american maybe president George Bush declared that Most of the USA import comes from abroad. Except from this advanced criticism of Kants analytical propositions the USA is involved in voting discussions. With a slight move towards Ladonian situation Lord Sigwhig has formed this lyric:
Every vote counts
if every count votes
so help me lord

VOJVODINA |
|
|
This letter arrived to Ladonia from Yugoslavia:
Hello!
I'm writing to you from Becse, Yugoslavia. Ladonia is very popular in my town! Seven of my friends are citizens of Ladonia, and we are proud when we can show our passports to others. I think that the idea of founding Ladonia was absolutely brilliant!
We live in the area of Yugoslavia called Vojvodina, and we belong to the Hungarian minority. We think that it's important to tell others about Ladonia, and with this increase the number of citizens in the country. Is it possible to form a community of Vojvodina in Ladonia, and so, who lives in Vojvodina can sign up to this community after becoming the citizen of Ladonia. If we are going to have more members, we would like to show others our existence for example by naming a rock (in Ladonia) Vojvodina.
Well, what do you think?
Best wishes and
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalll!
Sipos Attila
And of course this plan from Attila is plausible. Already can one find, not only a stone, but a certain place in Ladonia called Vojvodina. This place is a rock, a very huge rock with a flat upper surface where there is space enough for a dozen persons.

SPANISH AMBASSADOR |
|
|
Ladonia has now an ambassador, Jaime de Lopo y Branco in Barcelona, a very international personality:
I introduce myself as a spaniard who born in Zimbabwe (Rhodesia) in 1957.
I speak english, spanish, italian, portuguese and french, studyed Law and frequented the diplomatic school .
I shall soon beguine a strategy on behalf of your country. Regarding Citizenship its fantastic but there may be some disadvantages on the recluted people which should be matter to study and not incur in a desprestige procedure.

DANISH PROFESSOR LOST HIS WINE, STATE SECRETARY SUSPECTED |
|
|
The danish professor Arno Victor Nielsen, ladonian citizen (and he presented Ladonia with his beings) had placed a bottle of good chilenian wine in his office in Bergen, Norway. When the office was moved to another room the bottle disappeared. The person handling the removal (his name is Trond) claimed that the state secretary had drunk it. But as the state secreatry is a puritan this was i lie. Professor Nielsen means that we have to deal with a norwegian culture problem. In Norway you cant really drink and when you do (and this is done very often) you cannot admit it. The main line theory points at Trond who might have drunk it but dont want to talk about it. A reasonable punishment would be defenestration (there is water beneath the window). |

PROBLEMS WITH GLOBAL CULTURE |
|
|
Globalism is a fine thing as well as foreign cultures outside the western world. But when it comes to problems it gets really bad. And we may say that the globalism flirt with the barbarians is just a part of the entertainment exotica. The bad things, as we see it, like being awful to women causes sometimes e-mail lists. I think the following example is typical:
This is something that we as women and essentially as human beings need to support - I don't know if this is going to help but take 3 minutes out of your life to do your part.
Madhu, the government of Afghanistan, is waging a war upon women. Since the Taliban took power in 1996, women have had to wear burqua and have been beaten and stoned in public for not having the proper attire, even if this means simply not having the mesh covering in front of their eyes. One woman was beaten to death by an angry mob of fundamentalists
for accidentally exposing her arm while she was driving. Another was stoned to death for trying to leave the country with a man that was nota relative. Women are not allowed to work or even go out in public without a male relative; professional women such as professors, translators, doctors, lawyers, artists and writers have been forced from their jobs and stuffed into their homes. Homes where a woman is present must have their windows painted so that she can never be seen by outsiders. They must wear silent shoes so that they are never heard. Women live in fear of their lives for the slightest misbehavior. Because they cannot work, those without male relatives or husbands are either starving to death or begging on the street, even if they hold Ph.D.s. Depression is becoming so widespread that it has reached emergency levels. There is no way in such an extreme Islamic society to know the suicide rate with certainty, but relief workers are estimating that the suicide rate among women, who cannot find proper medication and treatment for severe depression and would rather take their lives than live in such conditions, has increased significantly. There are almost no medical facilities available for women. At one of the rare hospitals for women, a reporter found still, nearly lifeless bodies lying motionless on top of beds, wrapped in their burqua, unwilling to speak, eat, or do anything, but slowly wasting away. Others have gone mad and were seen crouched in corners, perpetually rocking or crying, most of them in fear. One doctor is considering, when what little medication that is left finally runs out, leaving these women in front of the president's residence as a form of protest.
It is at the point where the term "human rights violations" has become an understatement. Husbands have the power of life and death over their women relatives, especially their wives, but an angry mob has just as much right to stone or beat a woman, often to death, for exposing an inch of flesh or offending them in the slightest way. Women enjoyed relative freedom, to work, dress generally as they wanted, and drive and appear in public alone until only 1996. The rapidity of this transition is the main reason for the depression and suicide; women who were once educators or doctors or simply used to basic human freedoms are now severely restricted and treated as subhuman in the name of right-wing fundamentalist Islam. It is not their tradition or 'culture,' but it is alien to them, and it is extreme even for those cultures where fundamentalism is the rule. Everyone has a right to a tolerable human existence, even if they are women in a Muslim country. If we can threaten military force in Kosovo in the name of human rights for the sake of ethnic Albanians, citizens of the world can certainly express peaceful outrage at the oppression, murder and injustice committed against women by the Taliban.
STATEMENT:
In signing this, we agree that the current treatment of women in Afghanistan is completely UNACCEPTABLE and deserves action by the United Nations and that the current situation overseas will not be tolerated.
Women's Rights is not a small issue anywhere, and it is UNACCEPTABLE For women in 2000 to be treated as subhuman and so much as property. Equality and human decency is a RIGHT not a freedom, whether one lives in Afghanistan or elsewhere.
And then the endless listing of names, where in the end you can find the name of even a couple of wellknown contemporary artists:
1) Suzanne Dathe, Grenoble, France
2) Laurence COMPARAT, Grenoble,France
3) Philippe MOTTE, Grenoble, France
4) Jok FERRAND, Mont St Martin, France
5) Emmanuelle PIGNOL, St Martin d'Heres, FRANCE
6) Marie GAUTHIER, Grenoble, FRANCE
7) Laurent VESCALO, Grenoble,FRANCE
342. Kirsten Stoltmann, Chicago, USA
343. Pipilotti Rist, Zürich, switzerland
344. Tobias Rehberger, Germany
345. Fredrik Näsholm, Stockholm, Sweden
346. Patrick Nilsson, Kallhäll, Sweden
And then the begging for the list:
Even if you decide not to sign, please be considerate and do not kill
the petition. Thank you!
But, after all, one might have to do something. I suggest that we introduce a INSULTING WOMEN DAY in Ladonia. This means that there should be one day, just one, when the women will be insulted and treated in the worst way in Ladonia. It should be a great reminder of what is going on all the time in the world and about the fascination of global culture. The day should be the 14th of July, not because of the French revolution, but because it is the birthday of the swedish crown princess. And, finally, it might be that women are thrown into the water, and it is more humanistic to choose a day with expected reasonable temperature in the sea.

HARTMAN ON LINE |
|
|
Minister Hartman hasmade new unexpected discoveries about the relation between Hartmanburg, a part of Ladonia, and all the Hartmans in Germany (and also in Austria):
The impossible has been uncovered again!!! You have too see this. I had no idea but Hartmann (Hartman) towns with this in there name and cities do indeed run in a line strait up to Hartmanburg Ladonia from the south of Germany either side of the 12E line. The odds against such an alignment seem obvious.

AT THE END OF THE DAY
A word from our Minister of Health |
|
|
From the notebooks of Dr Emanuel von Bock:
Beyond Astral Worlds.
An experience of freedom.
In the moonlight
I walked up my drive
and thought
1 + 1 = 5
or maybe even six
this makes no sense
you think
but I think not
it marks an altered state
where 2 + 2 is One
or maybe 24
and every puddle on the drive
is filled with autumn leaves
and the light of our moon -
Thou pale old pal!
How many virgins,
I do wonder,
hast thou seduced - by this very night -
many more than yonder
above my shoulders
all the dancing stars?
May unconditioning boons befall all peoples of the many worlds!
E. von Bock, Minister of Health
