The Wonderful Boost of Modern Psychology as a First Step of Self-Perfection.
For all Ladonians and peoples of the whole world, a quick guide for self-perfection: The Universe needs you to become that which extremely few of you already are individuals in your own right because human intelligence is a definite layer in the cosmos, and with a fake layer it will be the cosmos.
Necessary Glossary for the Quick Fix designed by our incomparable Ministry of Health, neither in alphabetic, nor any other easily recognisable order, and with one entry too many:
1) POP Process Oriented Psychology, offshoot from Jungian psychology, saying we dream all the time, in constant flux, process. In waking state the dreaming process is present in body language and double signals.
2) Self Archetype the deeper timeless self in Jungian psychology, the goal of the individuation process, permeating especially later life.
3) NCR and CR Non-Consensus Reality and Consensus Reality, an attempt to adjust the old terminology unconscious and conscious to shamanic experience, and especially to find a new name for the collective unconscious. NCR processes are thought to organise CR phenomena and can be paralleled with the realm of intricate mathematics governing physical reality. The founder of POP, once physicist Arnold Mindell, also makes frequent use of relativistic dichotomies, from my point of view, from your point of view, etc.
4) Sentient, Sentience what we very subtly seem to perceive before we have words for an experience, a doorway to NCR or the unconscious.
5) Big me or Dreambody the sum total of your dreaming, all your body signals, symptoms, movements, including external events involving you, such as Jungs acausal synchronicity, making your external waking life appear with the meaningfulness of a dream.
6) Quantum Mind, POP father's Arnold Mindell's Magnum Opus, from Lao Tse Press, 2000.
7) Group Process - group conflict resolution, people identified in external, CR roles justifying themselves and quite seriously abusing each other for a while, escalating, and suddenly going quiet and falling in each other's arms - beginning to feel the position of the other. This is poossible only between people "asleep" - without true selves - but the by far vast majority is "asleep" - part of group mind and subject to group destiny.
8) Morphogenetic field theory (Sheldrake) time and space independent morphogenetic factor in Biology. Forms, patterns of movement, etc. will occur more readily happen the more they have already occurred.
9) Suffling roles the epitome of spiritrual development in POP, realising ones identity is but an arbitrary role in this world the energy of which originates from a timeless beyond where we are all an awesome mix of spirits and each other in one and the same cosmic cauldron. Shuffling roles indicates one is not attached to this arbitrary role. Unfortunately, with this also ends the interest in the problem of identity in POP. Deeper individuality is not considered. According to sufi terminology, POP would be lost in the alam-i arwah, the world of spirits or energies, or the next world.
10) Sitting in the Fire by Arnold Mindell, manual for handling group conflict, partly brilliant, partly tainted with political stereotypes and blind generalisation.
11) Facilitator the leader of a process, be it group conflict resolution or fishing from the unconscious of a client.
12) The Tao from taoism, in POP the universal handyman, what is not explained by theory, is the mysterious tao at work, also the inexplicable, sudden revealing of a path, or the peaceful harmonious life in a community, a divine factor at work.
13) World-work large scale group or diversity conflict resolution, believed to affect the total world field in a favourable way. Very important in POP.
14) Secondary process what is going on in us, further away from our identity.
15) Primary process what we are aware of as identified with, very much our outer persona, the shop keeper, the manager, the mother, the father
16) Elder person who manages to speak from a position not identified in a fixed role in group conflict, able to sense the feelings of either side, and bring everybody together to deeper understanding.
17) Co-creation POP believes we co-create the universe by carrying out what spirit urges us to do and especially through role shufflings, giving spirit or the Tao free way to express itself from beyond.
Everything useful is right for a time, but not for too long.
Mysteriously, POP is a backwards journey from Jungs Individuation and Self Archetype, towards the dawn of human consciousness. There is no individual Deeper Self in POP, it examines group minds, it is shamanism, it finds many kinds of "sentience" to be followed, but no "collected sentient state", which would correspond to a deeper centre inside. Our bodies, most of our behaviour, all those identities we constantly examine remain essentially disorganised worlds around struggling cultures, communities, belief systems, roles shuffled along in group processes, fields, be they morphogenetic or even electrical if sparks go off between combatants, all that which belongs to an outer world, to me provided there is a state of identification but not to I.
In POP no I is needed, it works nicely without I so while doing POP, we dont have I, or if we have a budding I somewhere deep down in our unconscious, we rest it here, and do nothing with it, and just follow the Tao. We remain passive, from a deeper point of view..
POP philosophy doesnt need I, in POP books (most importantly, Quantum Mind) is stated time and again how we are nothing but shuffling roles and an inexplicable course of the Tao. We may not agree with this and say why, POP is fun, but of course there is an I in me, most certainly, somebody who makes decisions, and cogito ergo sum and that might be true, but most probably its mere imagination we imagine incredible things about ourselves, our community, the world, hence all our problems we live on a very remote level in the universe, not only on the material plane, but on a material plane aggravated by a world of delusion created by ourselves.
On one hand, illusions of grandeur and self-importance. On the other, naive ignorance. Many of us maybe still fail to realise the very simple and elegant fact that man himself, not only the Tao, with sheer psychokinesis, may turn probability around and do the improbable (based on own work with chaotic systems and marvellous scientific studies from e.g. Princeton in the last decade). There exists an honourable place for mankind in the universe, to do the improbable, to create, but creation requires refinement of will, and the least measure of such real will could be defined as the (perfectly measurable) ability to influence a near chaotic system in a definite premeditated direction by mental concentration only. This is very different from only choosing between already established alternatives. And this will cannot function without an I in fact, it is that I!
Real man lives in time and in eternity, consciously, and has will. POP is the first step. Eternity is reached through all the dreaming doors our training is about. Will, uncontaminated by existing factors in the material world, pure will, however, must be searched behind dreaming doors of higher orders. Such doors are always found at the edge of the known thus the common field of an arbitrary world-work situation, which very much looks like a common equaliser, and is described as such in Quantum Mind, also is a door to be passed if one has will, if there is a real deeper I inside, rather than a home for another spirit wanting to express a role (already present) in the field.
The more will is refined, the deeper worlds can be reached, or better levels of "kenzo or satori" or whatever we wish to call them, until the ultimate dreaming door, nirvana the outer limit of all imagination but this too is a door.
In old POP real will and Deeper Self remain distant, recognised and followed only as the Tao.
Much of the reasoning around terrorism in POP, which I find quite embarrassing, especially how it is expressed in writing (e.g. Sitting in the Fire), and damaging, if a good POP student is encouraged to find the terrorist within rather than going for the sanctuary of his possibly budding real I, would be avoided if we begin to consider understanding real will. POP makes us go with the Tao, and thats fine, for a time, but not forever. We have a greater destiny to serve, there is a seed of creativity in each and every one of us, and once we find it, we cannot go on doing imaginary things. Then that would be missing the mark, or sin as it came to be translated from the original Greek language in the gospels.
Questions (one).
POP believes we have all the same psychological set-up affecting our behaviour. Thus, in POP circles it has come to be considered very desirable to identify the terrorist within, and also to understand acts of terorism in the outer world. POP-father even issued a letter to all students right after September 11, suggesting that the terrorists involved had been spiritual heroes while the victims caught in the twin tower blaze and collapse in a subtle way had been responsible for their untimely deaths and the tragic losses of their families. In POP, like in all movements that easily find followers, like communism, chauvinism, feminism, and what have you, the emphasis is laid on collective identity.
Q: Is it wrong to look for my terrorist within?
A: Before we have "I", we are a community field reigned by the Tao, we are different "types", we are "roles", we swap them in group process, and feel awe, because there behind our nothingness something very subtle and very real suddenly shows its power - we have a 'big moment', not quite knowing what that is, because it is essentially beyond words - and then very quickly we fall back to sleep again and say 'mea culpa', there is such and such an "x...ist" in me, while my disturber and opponent was entirely justified to inflict all that evil on me and for this deserves deepest love only, whereas in reality the source of the 'big moment' is drained the same moment theorising about what happened begins, and all that's left is a fading mystery in one's brother's or sister's eyes. This discrepancy between deeper reality and a theory stilted with political overtones and commended not without a teaspoon or two of self-praise in 'Sitting in the Fire', is what... to my stubborn Non-All-European Profoundly Estonian Group Field mind feels, ...somewhat embarrassing.
Really, there is nothing wrong examining terrorists within, wrong is doing it at all times, mechanically, like an automation. Automation is very external. The facilitator must know the difference between the field, and the "I", but as far as my experience with POP goes, such instructions for facilitators don't exist, because the field is all that's considered, all they talk about is awareness regarding the "field", i.e. group mind. And as long as the "I" is buried deep down in the unconscious, out of the way and asleep, that's fine and POP works perfectly.
The essential difference between the "I" and the "me" or "big me" or "unfathomable me" even is to be found in the very heart of POP, the 'secondary', this big me or you always appears in the position of a secondary process, while "I" cannot be anything but profoundly primary. And I say 'profoundly primary' for lack of better words, because it is not primary thorough identification, as we have been told is possible with roles, it is not a role, it is pure and potent will and a channel for creativity.
If you have will, you have presence, and you might correspond to an 'elder'. Elders in POP don't lean on theory, elders follow the Tao. If you follow the Tao, you are the Tao, but to have an "I" is to have Tao of one's own. Language is made to describe the material world and hardly expresses this difference, but it involves a second order dreaming door - going beyond the "field".
The interesting thing with POP is that it works. All taken together, the conclusions about our earthly existence it leads to are, to me, striking. As we are (according to POP), we are nothing realised, we are empty, we are like hooks on angling lines searching experience in deep waters. That experience is like the group process field, or the sufi spirit world. This is really fascinating. We are composed of matter and of this "spirit", but nothing is welded into an individual whole (yet), instead we are organised into communities, cultures, nationalities... Those communities and cultures have their own organised spirit and life and Tao which we serve, and they may be very different. All our feelings eventually go away from us. Everything happens to us. We go along as very finely tuned material apparatuses, able to swift roles even, producing sensitivity. We have a fabulous "big me" all and every one of us that makes most refined sensitivity, and we enjoy this sensitivity as it is produced in us. The secondary is our joy. Most people are perfectly happy with this and ask no further questions, it doesn't bother them that their awakened life only belongs to a group field, and it seems even right for them, since they prefer to stay were we project and dream and get dreamed up and take part in all that fantastic drama which is community life as we know it. But step by step, mysteriously, sensitivity producing disturbers brought along by the Tao, also allow for something to grow in us.
Eventually this Tao may become a door to something very different from the common field, your own highly individual destiny, your "I", your soul, the active you who creates rather than reacts in intricate self-organising ways, which are, however sophisticated, still automatic quasi-will manifestations. There is no "co-creation the universe" as described by POP, that's only imagination, to create or co-create you must have an "I", have will, have a destiny of your own. This destiny may need a very long preparation, maybe "uncountable lifetimes", but still it needs to be acknowledged by the POP we learn and in due course hand on to other people, otherwise POP will share the fate of all other once promising and later lopsided and forgotten movements. And Happy New Year.
